About GAUGE:
I use 3 kinds of gauge/ratio:
1. Hands on - by placing the piece I am knitting right on the piece I want to copy.
2. Artificial row - Here I knit from a chart on a regular, even graph paper.
Start with the right amount of sts and stop after 5-10 rows to check the ratio.
For example, if 1"=4 sts and 5 rows, I will knit an in between row every 4 rows.
3. Traditional gauge (knitting a gauge piece), which I use mainly when I want the picture to fit a particular size or frame. Not often.
Above: front cover of the book 'Knitting with Baba', a workbook for how to knit in different styles, how to knit pictures, and color knitting.
'Color & Picture Knitting' is it's twin, but without my Baba stories.
And 'The First Time I saw the Ocean' is a children story (not just for kids) illustrated witl lots of knitted pictures.
