And first, for the good surprise:
I just added a surprise double knitting instructions to me website. ‘surprise’ means knitting something without knowing what it is. The project is small, takes about 1-2 hours, and does not require much yarn. Double knitting means a technique where you knit 2 fabrics back to back at the same time. However, this surprise knit can be done in intarsia or stranding instead. Hope you feel adventurous and will give it a try…
The sad surprise: knitting with ‘Peaches & creme’ cotton yarn I was unpleasantly surprised to learn that they are adding scents to it. Result: allergic reaction that included fast heart beat, shaking hands, dizziness (like a black out), and nausea, which lasted for a day. It took me a while to realize what’s going on, and then I remembered that 6 month ago I knitted with their cotton, and it was so smelly I though the worker who put it on the shelve knocked a full hand lotion bottle into it. I remembered too that the smell did not come out in the laundry, nor through airing it outdoors for a month. The scent is there forever!
Very sad for me because I love their yarn. The company said it is only 7 scented yarns (I am still waiting on their names). For people with high allergies though, if the scented and unscented yarns are made with the same machine, or are sitting touching each other on the shelf in the store, there is no different between the two.
