SURPRISE KNIT
Surprise means I ain't telling ya what it is, try f'ar yarself and see.
You will need:
about 1 hour
2 colors (a and b), about 7 yards each and needles to match.
Skill level: done in St. st. you do not need to know how to work with color, BUT, whenever you change yarns, make sure the working yarn goes on top of the other one ( so that the yarn you are not working with is hugged between the knitting and the working yarn)
* if you do not know to purl - give it a try anyway and work it in garter st. You can double your rows (to prevent the picture from being squashed)
Cast on 18 st. with a
1 (rs) k 9 with a, add b and knit 9 b
2 (ws) p 9 b, 9 a
3 k 9a, 9b
4 p 9b, 9a
5 k 8a, 1b, 1a, 8b
6 p 7b, 2a, 2b, 7a
7 k 6a, 2b, 1a,1b, 2a, 6b
8 p 5b, 2a, 2b, 2a, 2b, 5a
9 k 4a, 2b, 2a, 1b, 1a, 2b, 2a, 4b
10 p 3b, 2a, 2b, 2a, 2b, 2a, 2b, 3a
11 k 3a, 2b, 2a, 2b, 2a, 2b, 2a, 3b
12 repeat r 10
13 repeat r 11
14 repeat r 10
15 k 4a, 4b, 1a, 1b, 4a, 4b
16 p 5b, 2a, 2b, 2a, 2b, 5a
17 k 9a 9b
18 p 9b, 9a
repeat r 17 and 18 one more time then bind off.

The chart above is great for practicing picture and color knitting. I highly recommend to knit it once as is, and then, turn the chart sideways, and knit another picture, using the same chart and yarns, but this time knitted from side to side. The different is amazing.
