Fabric vest - fun knitting with large needles and strips of fabric. You can buy fabric and cut (to about 1 inch strips) or use old cloth. I cut the fabric, make my own ball by knotting their ends together, and knit knit knit.
The design is simple and knitted in one piece,
starting with the front. I think I had 33 stitches,
with needles # 15us, and the result of 17"X17"
and 'curly' edges.
To shape the v-neck, I take one stitch off (dividing the knitting in two), then one stitch off on each side at the beginning or end of each row until the desired opening, then straight until it's time to add the stitches and start the back.
Lacy vest - this is one of my favorite easy ones to knit. Use thin yarn with relatively large needles (I used #10.5us). I used garter stitch for the bottom, neck and shoulder openings. For the lacy effect I go into the stitch, loop the yarn twice (instead of once). Next row insert needle into one of the stitch knit/purl, and let the extra loop fall off the needle. In the end of the row count to make sure you still have the same number of stitches.
I used 64 stitches, needles #9us for ribbing (2p, 2k), for 11 rows. Then stockinette stitch, needles #10.5us, with inserting a lace row and a color row whenever I felt like it. The result: 19x18 soft stretchy vest.

Two-scarves vests - Knit 2 equal scarves (Rib - 2 knit 2 purl), attach under the armpits, in the back and a little less in the front. That's all it is.
Another 2 scarves vest. This time knit the white yarn, purl (2 stitches only) with the blue. Do not carry the blue, but rather use small individual pieces of it for the different strips.
3 yarn vests - is an idea I picked from a DVD called "The art of knitting", the chapter about fabric by Laura Bryant. Choose 3 yarns, I stay with similar colors but different texture (I use one 'normal' variegated yarn, and 2 special effects yarns). Knit 1 row with first yarn, at the end attach second yarn and knit/purl till the end of the row. Attach third yarn and knit/purl to the end of the row. Drop third yarn and knit/purl with first for one row. And so on. Fun and easy.
This is a combination of 3 yarn and weaving technique, so is more challenging. I used 3 green yarns (for the 3 yarn style) and white and green (switching whenever I felt like it) for the weaving technique. So that each stitch has 2 yarns - one from the 3 yarn group, and one from the weaving group. sounds like a headache? Work with the 3 yarn style until you get it, then you can try this mixture.
